Alleged Murder Claims Life of St. Stephen Mother

A Little Ridge, N.B. man is in custody after he was found unresponsive alongside the dead body of 52-year old Crystal Ann Tracey on December 24th. St. Stephen Police were called to Tracey’s apartment building residence on Schoodic Street in response to a dispute at 11 a.m. and discovered the tragic scene. 55-year old Irving John Hastey was taken to the hospital to be treated and was arrested on charges of 2nd-degree murder two days later.

According to the RCMP’s Major Crime Unit and the West District RCMP, both of which are investigating the case, Tracey and Hastey knew each other and the attack does not appear to be random. An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death.

Hastey was previously ordered by the court to have no contact with Tracey other than for the purposes of interacting with “children and family members,” per court records. He is being additionally charged with violating that undertaking. Hastey also faced earlier, unrelated charges for breaking and entering and a firearms offense, CBC reports.

Tracey is the mother of three children, all of St. Stephen, her obituary reads.

The charges against Hastey will be heard on January 14th, 9:30 a.m. AST by Judge Henrik Tonning at the St. John provincial court.
