Porter Chosen to be Parade Grand Marshal

It's that time again! Santa will be making an early stop to Calais on Friday, December 7th, spreading lots of cheer at the 21st Annual Lioness Christmas Parade.

The parade will again begin at Dead River at 6 p.m. As always, it will proceed through downtown, ending at Union Street. Santa will make his way to the downtown community park to meet with all the boys and girls who will receive a delicious cookie from Mrs. Claus. A special thanks to Bell’s IGA and Tradewinds Shop ‘n Save for assisting Mrs. Claus with the treats.  Kids in attendance can also sign up for a free drawing from the Calais Lioness elves.

Pre-registration is required to take part in the parade.  Applications with detailed requirements are available by emailing JaynaMSmith@hotmail.com or can be picked up at the city building, or for school groups, from the office at CES or CMHS.  Jamie Bohanon will again be volunteering to organize the parade line for the Lioness Club.

Those in attendance can warm their bellies with some hot chocolate, thanks to the Calais 8th graders.  Students will be on-site with hot chocolate by donation as they continue their work of raising funds for their class trip.

Of course another highlight of the evening is Moonlight Madness.  This shopping-local tradition involves many stores all across town staying open late with lots of sales and specials.  Shoppers won’t want to miss this great experience to support the local businesses.

Ian Pratt of Pratt Chevrolet Buick GMC will once again provide a beautiful ride for the Parade Grand Marshal. This year's Grand Marshal, selected unanimously by the ladies of the Lioness Club, is City Manager Jim Porter.  Porter has always demonstrated commitment and dedication to the City of Calais while serving as City Manager.  He will retire from the City Manager position at the end of next month.

Lioness Club President Cindy O’Brien stated, “Jim’s extra work on various committees to keep our city alive goes well above and beyond the basic job requirements of manager.  He truly cares about Calais and the people living and working here.”

The Calais Lioness Club also sends a big thanks to Classic Hits 92.7 WQDY/WALZ and The Calais Advertiser for continued coverage of Lioness events throughout the year.  Be sure to follow “Calais Lioness Club” on Facebook to keep up with parade updates and other Lioness news.
