Pratt Dealership Supports Free Screening Mammograms

Pratt Chevrolet Buick GMC is donating funds to Calais Regional Hospital for the second year in a row to provide screening mammograms to local Washington County women.    For eight year’s Pratt has taken part in the Chevrolet promotion to support Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.  For every photo posted to Instagram with the hashtag #idrivefor, Chevrolet donates $5 to the American Cancer Society.   Owner Ian Pratt matches those funds, and any donated by community members.

“The matching funds provide access to screening mammograms for those in my community who may be putting it off due to financial considerations,” said owner Ian Pratt.  “With the excellent staff and digital mammography available locally at CRH, it is an easy way to positively impact those in our community who need this service.”

The free screenings are for Washington County women 40 years of age or older, with no insurance or who are underinsured, with no prior medical complications of the breast, and who have not had a mammogram in the past 12 months.   An order from a primary care provider will be needed prior to the screening.

“The number of people being diagnosed with breast cancer is increasing, but with early detection the survival rates are high,” said Kristy Surles, Director of Radiology at Calais Regional Hospital. “The biggest risk factor, after gender, is increasing age — 80 percent of breast cancers occur in women over the age of 50.”   Women who undergo routine mammograms at Calais Regional Hospital have the latest technology available to them — digital mammography.   The digital mammography technology available at CRH enables patients to receive results from their mammograms more quickly, and often eliminates the need for repeat exams.

Support breast cancer awareness and screenings for Washington County women by stopping in to Pratt and taking an #idrivefor photo to be posted online.   For every photo, $5 will be donated by Pratt for free screening mammograms and $5 will be donated by Chevrolet to the American Cancer Society.
