Erica Pike, FNP Joins CRMS Family Medicine

Calais Regional Hospital is pleased to announce the addition of Erica Pike, Family Nurse Practitioner, to the CRMS Family Medicine office.

Erica has come a long way since her school years of playing in her small Woodland neighborhood.   But in many ways, she’s right back to where she started – being involved in her small community, looking out and caring for others and being a shining example of grit and determination.  She juggled being a student with a full-time job, a family and community commitments.    She is excited to now be able to offer her medical skills right here in Washington County where she grew up.

Erica earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree from Husson College and her Master of Science in Nursing Degree from St. Joseph’s College.   Erica joined Calais Regional Hospital in 2009, serving as the Director of Case Management.    Her nursing experience includes medical surgical, emergency, intensive/special care, home health and hospice.   Her passion lies with hospice and palliative care.   She is an advocate for patients and their families in coordinating advanced care planning and making those difficult end-of-life decisions.  So much so that even with her busy schedule of school, work and family, she plans to carve out time to serve as a hospice volunteer.

In addition to her newly earned role as a Family Nurse Practitioner, Erica is a dedicated parent with partner Jason to their children Connor, 10, and Ava, 8.   She is very proud her children were able to see her work hard for her goal, and witness challenges overcome and conquered with perseverance.  The family enjoys all of the seasons of Maine and everything this area has to offer like camping, fishing and hunting.  “We are rooted in our community through activities, friends and family,” explains Erica.  “Our family is located in this area.  So once completing my dream of earning my FNP degree, I always wanted to practice here – at home.”   When asked about a favorite memory growing up in this area, she smiles and tells of spending time with her uncle in his 1983 Mustang and heading through the McDonald’s drive thru – a true small town moment!

"I am excited with the opportunity to practice in Calais. I look forward to working with a wonderful staff and caring for patients in this community…my community," says Erica.  Her philosophy in providing patient care involves using a holistic nursing approach. “By assessing emotional, mental, and physical health in addition to the environmental, psychosocial and spiritual components of health, I work to improve patient outcomes and transitions of care through patient and family engagement, teaching and care coordination through resource and service utilization while respecting the wishes of the patients,” explains Erica.  “As a result, the overall health and wellness of the community is positively impacted.”

She will begin seeing patients at CRMS Family Medicine in September.   Call 454-8195 for an appointment or to inquire about her services.   If the opportunity arises, please take the opportunity to congratulate the hometown girl on her great achievement and thank her for choosing to provide care in our community.
