Win Five Contests on Week

 

The Woodland Lady Dragons have begun their 2018 schedule this week winning all five contests, while some unfortunate Aroostook County teams haven’t played a single contest and many still have snow on their fields. 

The Lady Dragons hosted the Calais Lady Blue Devils in what proved to be a thriller with single runs earned by both teams over 8 at bats resulting in a 4-4 deadlock after seven frames of regular play. In the 8th extra inning Calais Mackenzie LaPointe opened the frame with a double. She went to second on a fielder’s choice and Kylie Donovan knocked her in with a single giving Calais a 5-4 lead. In the bottom of 8 the Dragons were able to put four players on base and ended up taking an exciting 6-5 win in a well-played contest by both teams. Shaye Beers paced the winners with 2 singles and Danielle Poole added a triple. On the Calais ledger Faith Tirrell had 2-singles and Haley Donovan and MacKenzie LaPointe each added a double.

The Shead Tigerettes visited Woodland and faced Sadie Smith and Mackenzie Campbell for 3-1/2-innings each and were able to connect for 11 runs and earn 11 hits. The Dragons had 10 hits but were able to secure 15 runs giving them at 4 run win. Keyariah Pellerin helped to pace the victory with 2 singles before leaving the game with a leg injury & everyone wishes Keyairah a speedy recovery! Danielle Poole also added 2 singles in the win, and Jennie Cox had a big 3-rbi triple in the 5th inning.

Another exciting contest this week featured East Grand Lady Vikings at Woodland. The guests scored in the top of the second, while the Lady Dragons started with back-to-back doubles by Shaye Beers and Jennie Cox to open with a first inning run. Danielle Poole and Jennie Cox paced the 4 run third inning giving Woodland the eventual 6-3 victory. Shaye and Jennie help power the win with 3 hits apiece. Sadie Smith added 2 singles in the important win, and she earned the win allowing just 5 hits and taking13K.

At Woodland Saturday, Shawna Monk belted a double and two singles and Jennie Cox doubled and singled in the first game as Woodland won 5-3 and Cox added a double and two singles in the second game as Woodland completed the sweep with a 10-3 victory.

In the opener, Shaye Beers had two base hits, Danielle Poole doubled and Sadie Smith collected the win and struck out 11. Maci Beals had a double, Mersaydez Johnston singled and Caitlyn Harris struck out 11 for Central Aroostook.

In the nightcap, Sadie Smith doubled and singled to complement Cox. Beers had two singles, Belle Moody tripled and Sadie Smith and Jayden Smith each doubled. Sadie Smith struck out 10.

For Central Aroostook, Beals, Breann Bradbury, Annika Nicholas and Macey Coffin had singled and Harris registered seven strikeouts.
