Machias Town Manager Christina Therrien Announces Candidacy for Maine Senate

Christina Therrien, the current town manager of Machias, has announced her candidacy for Maine State Senate District 6.

The Senate district encompasses all municipalities and unorganized territories of Washington County and parts of East Hancock County including Gouldsboro, Sullivan, and Winter Harbor.

Therrien decided to run to make Downeast Maine a priority for decision-makers in Augusta. Commenting on her candidacy, Therrien stated:

“Time and time again Senate District 6 gets the short end of the stick from politicians in Augusta. Debate over funding or closing the Downeast Correctional Facility is just one very significant example.”

“From fisheries and blueberries to boatbuilding and wreaths, rural Mainers throughout Senate District 6 keep Maine’s heritage industries alive. I am running for State Senate to fight for the dedicated and hardworking people of this district and to ensure their contributions are recognized by those in Augusta.”

Issues Therrien would prioritize as State Senator include the creation of good-paying jobs in rural Maine, rural access to quality healthcare, services for veterans, and community safety and wellbeing – particularly through fighting the opioid epidemic.

Therrien has over 17 years of town manager experience throughout rural Maine. In addition to her current tenure as Machias town manager which began October 2015, Therrien served in that position from 2001 to 2006 and worked diligently towards securing the Veterans’ Home for Washington County. She was previously the town manager in Madawaska for nine years.
