Lawrence U (Larry) Bailey, 58 of Calais, Me, Passed away peacefully at Eastern Maine Medical Center on May 12,2017 after a long struggle with cancer and diabetes. 

Larry was one of four children born to the late Warren Webster (Beetle) Bailey Jr. of Calais, and Geraldine Florence (Gerry) Bailey of Deer Island, New Brunswick, on November 28, 1958.

Born in Calais, Larry attended the Calais School system, and went on to serving in the U.S. Navy as an Avaition Support Equipment Technician Mechanic (ASM) from 1978-1981. He completed Recruit Training in Great Lakes, IL; Apprentice training in Millington, TN; and achieved the rank of Petty Officer Third Class (P03/E4) prior to his Honorable Discharge. He was assigned duty as a member of ship's company with the USS Forrestal (CV-59), Homported in Mayport, FL. During his time of active duty he completed a Mediterranean Cruise with many port calls, including Rota, Spain.

After serving in the Navy, Larry went on to work at Georgia Pacific Inc., where he started in the store room, and quickly moved onto obtaining his Master Journeyman's license in pipefitting. He was employed there for 25 years until he became ill with cancer.

Among all Larry's achievements in his life, his greatest were his children and grandchildren. Two sons, Larry and Scott, One daughter Lyndsay Jean. Grandsons, Tobin and Nathan Jr.

Larry was an avid outdoorsman, and obtained his outdoor Maine Guide license. He thoroughly enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and fourwheeling with his family and friends. Larry was very energetic and enthusiastic about life and all it had to offer. He was a very kind and generous man, and always put his heart and soul into anything he pursued.

Larry is survived by his lifelong companion of 30 years, Cathy Bailey of Calais, ME. Sons, Lawrence Bailey of Austin, TX. Scott Bailey of Calais, ME, Daughter, Lyndsay Wood and husband Nathan of Steep Falls, ME. Brothers, William (Billy) Bailey of Gulfport, MS., Roderick (Ricky) Bailey and wife Cindy of Calais, Sister Tammi Seeley and husband Ricky of Crawford, Me. Two grandsons. Tobin Webster Bailey, and Nathan Scott Wood Jr., as well as many nephews, neices, cousins and friends who loved him very much. 

Larry will be missed not only by family, but by the community for the vibrant life he brought, and the love he gave to all he came in contact with.

A graveside service at Calais Cemetery, followed by a Celebration of Life at St.Croix Country Club will be announced at a later date.
