SHIRLEY RUTH

(TYLER) CLARK

Waterville, Maine - Shirley Tyler Clark, 86, passed away at Oak Grove Center on January 27, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 23, 1930, in Calais, Maine to Harry and Marjorie Tyler and attended schools in Calais, graduating from Calais Academy with the Class of 1947. Shirley worked for several years at the M.H. Fishman department store in Calais.

Shirley married Fred Clark, the love of her life and next door neighbor. They were happily married for 67 years until Fred passed away in 2015. Together, they raised two children while moving around Maine following Fred’s career with the Dead River Company. After settling in Waterville, Shirley went back to school, graduating from the Kennebec Valley Vocational Technical Institute. Following graduation from KVVTI, she worked for Thayer Hospital for many years, serving as a Unit Secretary and a Ward Clerk. Shirley loved her job there and the people loved her. Following her retirement, Shirley enjoyed traveling around the United States, visiting with friends and family.

Shirley played many roles during her 86 years on this earth, but the most important role was that of a loving wife to Fred, a loving and nurturing mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family and a devoted friend to many.

She was predeceased by her husband Fred Clark, her brother Harry Tyler and her sister Carol Furber. Survivors include her sister Joyce Avery; daughter Lynn Wood; son John Clark (Kathryn); grandsons Matthew and Adam Wood; great-grandson Adrian Wood; and many special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Waterville.
