The Dragon’s Den

Welcome back to the Dragon’s Den! This was a pretty important week at WHS- the annual commencement ceremony took place, along with the class night ceremony! So let’s get the ball rolling with this week’s Dragon’s Den.

On Friday night, the annual Class Night ceremony took place. At this event, the members of the top ten of the Senior class predict where their class mates will be in a few years with the class prophecy, leave advice and gifts to underclassmen with the class will, look back on fond time with the remember-whens, and flatter their classmates with a parting class gift picked just for their personality. At the event, teachers introduced the members of the top ten to the crowd of family and friends with personalized and personable speeches. Yearly academic and extracurricular awards were handed out to the seniors as well. Juniors also got recognized at this event, with year-end junior awards. This night is certainly more light hearted than the very serious, yet very exciting Graduation Ceremony that took place the following morning.

Graduation began on Saturday morning with the class marching in, lead by class president Scott Rhoades. Then the honor speeches began, starting with a touching Salutatory address by Kylee Carouso. Then came a speech from fourth in the class Courtney James, followed by a performance of “Lean on Me” by the WHS Chorus. Then, third in the class Andrew Howland gave a comical graduation speech to lighten the mood (as many audience members were already tearing up). This was followed by the Valadictory address, given by first in the class Scott Boies. Then the scholarships were given out to deserving students who had applied for additional funds for college, and afterwards, the moment everyone was waiting for- the handing out of diplomas. Students shook hands with members of the school board and school faculty, and officially became WHS graduates. A huge congratulations goes out to the class of 2014! We expect nothing but the best from each and every one of you, and we wish you the best of luck!

The other major event that took place at WHS this week was the DAC AllStar banquet! Student athletes from all the schools in the DAC came to Woodland High School for a yummy dinner, and the presentation of awards and recognition to student athletes from sports programs over the course of the entire school year. Congratulations to all students from WHS and other schools in the DAC on representing your school through athletics. The All-Stars from the WHS tennis team were announced shortly before the banquet, so special congratulations goes out to Kade Snowman, Tanner White, Vanessa Kidder, and Camille Howard.

That wraps up this week from WHS. Be sure to come back next week for more news from the end of the school year at WHS. Until then, thanks for checking in!
