Wesley's Fun-Run Invites All to Come

By Ruth Leubecker

Running to remember the winsome smile and loving presence of one little boy, a community will turn out on June 21 for the Wesley Keeton Fun-Run and 5K Race.  A lively fun-filled event for all ages, runners and walkers will convene behind Archibald's One Stop in East Machias, at 7 a.m. to pre-register, or at 8 a.m. to begin the Fun-Run, to be followed by the 5K. The route will follow the Sunrise Trail along the East Machias River and back. After only one week over 400 likes had been posted to the Fun-Run's Facebook page. "We're expecting large numbers," said Dean McGuire, who is helping organize the event. "Many posts are offering to help or volunteer where needed." The Facebook page will have regular updates. Many volunteers have already been assigned tasks. Stephanie Wood will be the on-site nurse. Others have signed up for specific stations. Youngsters are being urged to run in their SuperHero outfits. Game wardens have agreed to be at the finish line to present the awards at the end of the race. Two roving photographers and music at the finish line will also be part of the occasion. First, second and third prizes will be awarded in each of the three categories of men, women and children. Because green was Wes's favorite color, two t-shirts will incorporate the color green. The first will say "Team Wes" and be for the working volunteers. The second shirt will be for sale, and both will have the Wesley Fun-Run logo on the front. T-shirts will be available in small, medium, large and extra-large, and may be pre-ordered until May 23. The first 50 individuals to register for the race will be given a free shirt. For further information visit FB at Wesley's Fun-Run, or call Meghan, 460-7055, or Tammy, 255-8692. Fun-Run registration is $5.00, or $10.00 after May 23. The 5K registration is $10.00, or $15.00 after May 23. All proceeds from the event will go to the Wesley J. Keeton Scholarship Fund.
