State Cinemas Reopens in Calais with Digital Movie Projectors

By Lura Jackson

Residents and visitors to Calais now have the option of viewing digitally projected movies on the big screen, thanks to a recent renovation to the State Cinemas movie theater on Main Street. In addition to the new projectors (which will enable a much crisper image than the previously used 35 mm projectors), new screens have been installed in each of the theaters and an extra wall was built between theaters 1 and 2 to diminish noise.

Digital movie projectors have rapidly been replacing the older 35 mm technology in theaters across the country thanks to the visual enhancements they provide. By purchasing and installing Christie brand digital projectors (winner of numerous technical awards and industry firsts), State Cinemas now offers the movie-goers of Calais an unmatched viewing experience in this area.

State Cinemas is locally owned, and has been serving the Calais community for over 25 years, with discounts given to children, seniors, and active military. Customers from both sides of the border are welcomed. Presently, the cinema is playing Divergent (PG-13), Mr. Peabody and Sherman (PG), and Non-Stop (PG-13); please call the movie info line at 454-8830 to hear the latest titles. Movies play Wednesdays through Sundays at 7:00 pm, with a matinee on Sunday at 1:30 p.m..
