High School Boys Basketball Action

The Woodland High School boys’ team opened at home last week against the Shead Tigers from Eastport. Shead took the lead from the start as Mark Clossey poured in 15-points in the opening period as the guests jumped ahead 20-15 and then powered to a 33-24 advantage midway with Nic Bradbury scoring 8 in the second period. Tomah, Lincoln, and Cochran paced the Dragons in that opening half of action. Clossey and Bradbury continued to pace in the second half scoring 15/9-points respectively, while the Dragons were led by Toby Tomah at 10 and Damon Lincoln with 9. The Tigers earned the victory with a 63-55 win. Clossey was game high scorer with 31-points, Bradbury hit 20, and John Cushing added 8 in the decision. For the hosts Toby Tomah hit 18, Damon Lincoln 16, and Tyler Cochran 13.

Last week the Calais Blue Devils handled the Lynx from Mattanawcook and the Raiders from Washington Academy. Opening at WA the Blue Devils surged to a 16-6 lead after 8-minutes and a 29-16 margin at the half; they never looked back defeating their hosts 58-48. Cordell Hold paced the Devils attack with 14, Diffen and Niles each had 12, and Nathan Newell added 10 in the win. Feeney was the lone Raider in double figures scoring a solid 25-points.

The Devils hosted Lincoln on Friday and the game was quickly taken over by Calais as they went up 19-11 after one, and 40-24 midway. Coach Leeman then played everyone powering to a 66-36 victory. Carter Ward led the Lynx with 9-points, while Calais had Horace Diffen scoring 15, Kyle Johnson 14, Tyler Niles 13, Cordell Hold 10, and Nathan Newell 8.
