Clossey To Lead Maine Development Foundation

The Maine Development Foundation (MDF) has named Calais native Harold Clossey as its new President and CEO. Clossey, who has served as Sunrise County Economic Council’s (SCEC) Executive Director since 2006, will be transitioning into his new position in January 2014.

“We are fortunate to have someone of Harold’s caliber as our next leader,” MDF Board Chair Aldo Servello said. “He’s dynamic, engaging, and extremely passionate about the things we’re doing at MDF. Everyone we’ve spoken to about Harold is impressed with his strong work-ethic and willingness to engage leaders from all walks of life. Harold will help drive the next chapter in our goal of turning research into action for the state of Maine.”

“Harold has served SCEC exceptionally well for over seven years,” SCEC Board Chair Shirley Erickson said. “He’s been the driving force behind the Council, and all that it has accomplished. Thanks to Harold’s leadership, SCEC has reached new heights and become a stronger organization. MDF is getting a visionary leader who gives his all every day. On behalf of the Board and staff, we wish Harold every success in his new venture, and thank him for a job well done.”

Clossey said that he looks forward to the challenge.

“Working with SCEC has been a tremendously rich and rewarding experience,” he said. “I’ve enjoyed working alongside our dedicated staff, board of directors, supporters, colleagues, clients, and a multitude of collaborators who are working hard to improve Washington County’s economy. At the same time, this transition is bittersweet and exciting, both professionally and personally. I am honored and privileged to have been part of the growth in SCEC’s organization scope, capacity, programming, and overall development.  SCEC is poised for more great things in the future, and I wish the Council nothing but continued success and impact in our region’s economy.”

Clossey’s tenure as SCEC Executive Director will conclude December 20th; he will begin serving as MDF’s President and CEO after the holidays. Erickson said that an interim executive director would likely be appointed at SCEC’s December board meeting and a search committee will be established.
