December 12 - National Poinsettia Day. While in Mexico as U.S. Minister, Joel Roberts Poinsett came across a striking native plant. He later introduced it to the US where it became known as the poinsettia.

Congratulations to Harold Clossey as new president and CEO of the Maine Development Organization. 

The parade on Friday evening was fantastic. The lights and children and Lioness support team were great. The Calais band did a spectacular job.   The businesses were bright and glistening. Snacks were being served, it was truly a wonderful celebration.

December 17th - Full Cold Moon

St. Anne’s Cookie Sale on Saturday had many varieties and decorated for the season. There was also fudge, peanut butter balls, banana breads and a lovely basket raffle won by Hannah Sivret. Over $600 was raised.

The Congregational Church was set up beautifully for their Holiday Fair. Many house plants were on display as well as some bulbs. There was a large basket raffle, food tables, fudge, crafts, old and new sale items. So cozy and friendly one just wanted to relax and watch the people come and go.

The afternoon took me to St. Andrews to celebrate my uncle’s 91st birthday. His son was home from Moncton, brothers from St. John, Beaver Harbor, sisters from Quispamsis and Pennfield, nephew and friends dropping in. A buffet was served. A most delicious cake and lemon pie for dessert, Ganong’s double dip cherry chocolates. Oh so good.

Tom and Billie Parks celebrated their 50th anniversary also on Saturday at the #1 Fire hall.

The Shiretown Singers will present their annual Christmas Concert on Sunday, December 15th at 1:30 U.S. in All Saints Anglican Church. I attended that last year and the church was full. 

Home visiting his mother Issie Gibson was son Mark and his wife one day last week.

Seniority breakfast will be a week earlier due to the holidays, so join us Wednesday, December 18th at 7 am. Free breakfast drawing.

American Legion and Auxiliary will meet on December 16th at 6 pm at St. Anne’s Parish Hall.

Remember to bring in your crafts, baked goods, etc. on Wednesday or early Thursday morning for the Hospital Auxiliary Christmas Bazaar. There will be raffles and a 50/50 draw.

Birthday wishes to Matthew Beckett, Sylvia Day, Jeff Doten, Beth DiCenzo, Maybelle Clark, Karen Thomas, Cindy Richendollar, Carol Donovan, Jo Ellen Leeman, Bunny O’Brien.

The film Joyeux Noel will be shown in the Institute on Thursday, December 12th at 6:30 pm. Attendees may bring a snack. Beverages will be provided.

Joni Miller entertained some friends on Sunday afternoon. It certainly was Christmas there, lights everywhere, beautiful decorated tree in silver and blues, hors devourers galore, a variety of sweets.

The VFW met at Karen’s Diner for their Christmas party. Roast beef  with all the fixings. A gift exchange where you had a chance to swap, right down to the last.
