VFW Post # 9779

The VFW is grateful to all you who recognized and celebrated Veterans’ Day. The week began with a delicious lunch provided by the culinary arts class at WCCC. We would like to say thank you to President Cassidy and Will O’Shea for their dedicated support of Veterans. On Thursday evening, we had the pleasure of being the guests of Jr Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion in St. Stephen for a turkey dinner and program. It was a night of musical competition and fellowship. On Friday, the Calais High School AP Class hosted their annual Veterans’ Program with an emotional slide show featuring our VFW Chaplain David Sivret. There was special music and recognition of local veterans.

The VFW had the honor of posting the colors with the American Legion at the Woodland High School Veterans’ Day celebration. This program was organized by the National Honor Society with the help of Chief Bob Fitzsimmons. Sherry Sivret set up and explained the White Table. On Monday evening, St. Anne’s hosted the local ecumenical Veteran’s Day service which we took part. Thanks to everyone who supported and acknowledged the sacrifices of veterans.

We have received many entries for the Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen essay contest. It was a difficult task; however, we have selected our winners and they have been sent to district for the next set of judging. The teachers of the year have also gone to district for judging.

On November 8th, we held one of our Poppy Days. It was cold but the warmth that everyone showed by their donations was outstanding. The money that is raised stays in this area to help our local veterans. This community is really committed to helping our area veterans. We wish to thank everyone who donated so generously.

We wish all of our comrades in arms a Happy Thanksgiving.

Our next meeting with be on December 5th.
