GED Information

The State of Maine Department of Education and the adult education programs and high school equivalency test centers throughout the state would like to clarify some issues around the closing out of the GED in Maine.

First, we will continue to provide GED testing until December 6.  Testing will stop as of that date so that exams may be scored and results received.

Second, we are moving to the HiSET [High School Equivalency Test] in January.  This exam will be like the GED in that it will test in five sub-areas [reading, writing, math, science, and social studies], and will be available in a paper-and-pencil format as well as, eventually, a computer-based exam.

Third, the State of Maine will be combining existing GED scores with HiSET scores for the calendar year of 2014. However, people are strongly urged to finish the GED that  they have started.

Washington County has test centers in both the Calais and Machias areas.  Contact Washington County Community College at 454-1000 or Machias Adult & Community Education at 255-4917 for information and scheduling.
