The Dragon’s Den

Camille Howard

Welcome to the Dragon’s Den, readers! This past week was the final week of the quarter, which means we have quite a bit of news for you. So kick back and relax while we settle into this weeks news.

The annual open house was held on Tuesday. This event, which is for parents to get a feel for the school that their children attend daily. This year the format of the open house was slightly different. Instead of parents going from room to room talking to teachers, each teacher gave a small presentation in the gym. The heads of several school clubs, including the drama department, student council, and National Honors Society also gave presentations, explaining what their departments do. It was a great evening, thank you to all the parents who came out!

Juniors at WHS took their ASVAB tests this past week. This is a military placement that asks questions concerning school subjects, like English and science, as well as subjects like electricity and carpentry, the results of this test should be back sometime in December. That scores can help students determine what kind of job they’ll want to train for in post-secondary education.

Halloween was also this week! Some students wore their Halloween costumes to school, while others painted their faces. That evening, members of the Student Council and JMG got in some community service hours and helped run games and the prize table at the elementary school Halloween party! It was a fun, festive, and frightening holiday for all.

The Student Council would like to invite any veterans or persons currently serving in the Armed Forces to their annual Veterans’ Day assembly. The assembly will be held on Friday, November 8th at 1:15. Veterans are invited to participate in our school’s celebration of their service. To RSVP, you can call the school at 427-3325.

This past week was also the last week of quarter 1! Students are now finished with 1/4th of their school year, and report cards will soon be sent out to parents. We’ll have all the news from the first week of quarter 2 for you next week. Until then, thanks for checking in.
