Volunteers Needed for Salmon Project

 Machias, Maine – A effort is underway to raise the pH and calcium levels in Beaver Dam Stream in Wesley through a project at Downeast Coastal Conservancy’s Beaver Dam Stream Preserve.  The increased pH and calcium levels will enhance the habitat for Atlantic Salmon.  Volunteers are needed to help with this process on Sunday, September 22, 2013, the task for the day will be to help transport and spread mahogany clam shells in the stream. 

 Interested in helping?  Volunteers are asked to let DCC know they are planning to come by e-mailing info@DowneastCoastalConservancy.org or calling 207-255-2400.  Parking is limited at Beaver Dam Stream, volunteers will meet at the Downeast Coastal Conservancy office, located at 6 Colonial Way, Machias in the old 5&10 Building at 9:15am on September 22 and will carpool to the site.  Volunteers are asked to bring work gloves, boots, waders or watershoes, water and a lunch.
