During the month of August, the Rec Department concluded its summer programming and closed the pool after a great season.  The lifeguards and pool staff put on a great activities day for all children full of games, food, and activities.   Preparations are being made to drain and winterize the pool.  Mike from Mike’s Pool Service in Bangor came and walked around our pool facility for an hour inspecting and taking notes.  He is in the process of pricing and developing a plan of action with quotes.  He mentioned a few things that should be done and could be quite costly.  At this point we are waiting to hear back from him so we can plan our course of action.

The fall sports season is about to get underway.  We have found volunteers for all of the junior high school sports teams.  Patty Wentworth and Jillian Higgins will be coaching the cross country team, Jen Donovan will be returning to coach the volleyball team, and Ben Collins and Nate Farrar will be coaching the soccer team.  Sean Cavanaugh will be running the youth soccer program this year for students in grades K-5 that will take place on Saturday mornings starting on September 14th.  This year’s Rec Soccer will have a slightly different look with the first part of practice teaching the kids about the rules and skills of the game and the second part of practice getting the kids to play some small sided games.

We have added a new adult activity this fall.  Starting on September 18th will be the adult co-ed volleyball league.  Depending on the number of teams, there will be two games per night every Wednesday with a playoff on the final night.  Games will be held at the Rec Center and is a great way to get to meet people or have fun with spouses and friends.

Lucas Knowles has gone away to college and will be continuing to help maintain the field when he is home over long weekends and vacations.  We have had a hard summer with the riding z-mower being in Bangor for repairs twice.  We are still unsure of what is causing it to shut down but should know.
