Lursen Earns Silver Medal


Blue Devil’s Mike Lursen captured second place & a silver medal in the “C” states losing in the championship round to Zach Stevens from Lisbon in a fantastic match that went the limit to a 9-8 decision in the 132/lbs class. Calais Blue Devil Nick Hallowell earned a third place bronze medal @ 113/lbs at the States Saturday taking a pin over Cameron Pratt of Piscataquis @ 4:08. Lance Roberts collected fourth place for Calais in the meet losing in the consolation round to Dexter’s Carl Snow by pin @ 1:22. 

Washington Academy Wrestlers hold their own at the State Championship in Foxcroft Saturday Feb, 16th  after an extra week of waiting along with maintaining their body weight due to the State Championship being postponed because of Winter Storm Nemo. All area had hoped to maintain their momentum after their great PVC and Regional qualifying performances. WA didn’t sustain the progress they would have liked, but still came home with a 4th place finish from Senior Peter Robinson of East Machias. After losing in the first round of the championship matches Robinson came back with a pin over his GSA opponent and then battled the Monmouth wrestler and won in triple overtime to make it into the consolation finals with only seconds remaining in the overtime win. Sophomore Mike Shaw of Cutler made it into the semi finals with an exciting come back match against the wrestler from Madison then lost his next 2 matches. Anthony Soto had 2 matches losing both by close decisions. Michael Shaw and Anthony Soto are considered to be two of the Top 8 Wrestlers in the State in their weight classes.
