Former Maine State Senator Harold L. Silverman of Calais recently attended the Israeli Bar Admission ceremony in Jerusalem, in which his daughter, Reemon Silverman, received her certification to practice law. Reemon was one of the 1,248 admitted lawyers who successfully completed the bar examination in Israel.

Reemon is a 2007 graduate of Calais High School. She received her LL.B. in 2010 from Bar Ilan University, cum laude, as her LL.M. in 2011. This September, Reemon completed a year-long internship with the Fischer Behar Chen law firm based in Tel Aviv, specializing in corporate and contract law. She has accepted a position with this firm.

Harold Silverman described the ceremony as very moving, especially after the recent military encounter in the Holy Land.

“We were all thankful to be together,” he said.

Reemon said it was especially meaningful to have her father travel to Israel to attend the ceremony.

“Completing the prerequisites for practicing law in Israel during the past five years has been very challenging, but my father has supported me so much along the way and it was heartwarming to have my father finally see me become a lawyer.”
