 Calais – Floyd Louis Coons, 66, passed away Saturday, August 23, 2014.  Floyd was born in Calais on December 20, 1947, son of the late Floyd and Phyllis (McGraw) Coons.  He graduated from Calais Memorial High School, Class of 1966, and worked at Ware Knitters in Calais until starting his career with Georgia Pacific.

Beckett Center News

Drew Greenlaw from Eastport, Maine capped off a great points season with a second place finish at Speedway 660 on Saturday night. The finish moved him up to 4th in drivers standings out of 27 drivers and it also won him the Rookie of The Year title in the Late Model Sportsman class.

 Princeton – Ruth Mae McLellan, 83, passed away Friday, August 22, 2014 at a Bangor hospital.  Ruth was born in Baileyville on January 27, 1931, daughter of the late Robert and Harriet (Wilkins) Barter.  After graduating from Woodland High School she became employed with St. Croix Paper Co. Forestry Division in Calais.

Zephyrhills, Florida – Chloris I. Farley Calder, 80, died June 23, 2014, losing her brave battle with cancer. She was born in Calais, Maine on December 22, 1933, the only child of the late Freemont and Maxine Farley. She grew up, married and raised her family in Princeton, Maine. She was a member of the Princeton Congregational Church.

Moosehorn Hunting Permits Available

Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge will be open to hunting again this year.  All hunters who want to hunt on the refuge must obtain a free annual permit from the Refuge Office, located off the Charlotte Road in Baring.  Copies of the Hunt Map and Special Refuge Regulations are also available from the Refuge Office.
