Washington County Senator Applauds Passage of Nursing Home Funding

Senator David Burns Sponsored Bill to Save Struggling Facilities

 AUGUSTA – Senator David Burns (R-Washington) said the Maine Legislature today took a major step forward in ensuring nursing homes are able to remain open by passing LD 1776, “An Act To Implement the Recommendations of the Commission to Study Long-term Care Facilities.”

Bands Sought For Calais “Music on the Green” Summer Season

Bands of all kinds are sought for the summer “Music on the Green” concert series in Calais, now in its eighth year. The concerts are every Tuesday evening beginning at 6:30 p.m. and run from late June through late August or early September. This is a paying gig and interested groups should call Britani at 853-9500 or 214-1970.

Calais School Committee Holds Special Meeting

The Calais School Committee held a Special Meeting  last Tuesday April 8 at the high School library 6 :00 p.m. to handle a brief agenda.   Committee members in attendance were John Hill, James MacDonald, Robert Greenlaw, Marcia Hayward and Dale Earle.  Superintendent Keith Laser was also in attendance.

Picked up 1,008 flags for the Calais Cemetery. We will be having a brief flag raising ceremony at the Calais Veterans Cemetery on the 24th of May at 09:00, followed by placing flags on our Veterans Graves! All volunteers are welcomed. Coffee, doughnuts and refreshments will be available. All donations accepted.
